I just downloaded Osaurus to give it a try as I only use AI for basic use.
what's your preferred choice of AI app(s)?
Edit: I also use Ente's EnSu on my iPad & iOS

Osaurus is awesome!
Osaurus too! Really cool and just trying out KImi today
Fluent for Mac : local - Gemma 4; bgGPT; Qwen API: Gemini; NanoGPT (DeepSeek; GLM)
Dev here, I use Claude Code almost daily for coding. Which model I use just depends on the purpose, quick stuff versus the harder problems.
I use ChatGPT but have been slowly moving my queries to Siri in macOS 27. I’ve been pleasantly surprised (when it works) and most of the times it’s enough for me
Just so you know if you don’t already, Osaurus is for self hosting your own models and using api keys. You won’t ever get Claude quality on there. I personally like LM studio better but I like the button that pulls up Osaurus easily.
I just downloaded it too. It's pretty good. I'm curious... if I have a claude subscription for max.. and i use kimi 3 with osauraus, whats the cost comparison? I don't think Kimi has a subscription option... right?
I literally am just looking at them - theres' a new set that will start from 19 , 39 and then up to 199 USD a month -I think this is for the desktop version - it's paid. I like using Osaurus as it's Mac native, agentic + memory etc tbh and local models are ofc free. I do use Grok through it too which is awesome.
You can get surprisingly far with a basic ChatGPT / Claude subscription and it's hard to go wrong with either of them. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, these are the _only_ 2 general purpose AI tools. Once you get into the coding realm, options for tooling open up, but are still dominated by the 2 models. With all due respect to Osaurus, local models don't hold a candle to frontier models (or even larger open weight models), so unless you're running a machine with half a terabyte of VRAM, local models aren't an option for sufficiently complex use cases.
I usually stick to ChatGPT for everyday stuff, but it can be hit or miss with more complex tasks. For bigger projects, I've switched to Claude - it's way better at keeping track of context and doesn't lose the plot even if the thread gets super long.
